Lucie Chang Fine Arts

Lucie Chang Fine Arts is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition, "THE HONG KONG ICONICS" Art Basel Hong Kong Review, which commenced on July 11, 2025.
This exhibition focuses on three iconic artists who have laid the foundation of Hong Kong's visual culture—King of Kowloon (Tsang Tsao Choi), Zhao Haitien, and Anothermountainman(Stanley Wong). Through representative works spanning over half a century, the exhibition invites viewers to re-examine Hong Kong's distinctive cultural and artistic spirit. The central theme of this exhibition is "Hong Kong Classics," highlighting how these artists express profound reflections on urban memory, identity, and spiritual awakening through their respective works.
King of Kowloon (Tsang Tsao Choi)’s graffiti calligraphy challenges tradition with its bold strokes, exemplifying his classic street art style. The ink marks he left on electric boxes and lamp posts have become legendary symbols of Hong Kong culture. His works are not only part of street art but also serve as a direct response to Hong Kong's cultural and social phenomena, showcasing a strong personal style and social consciousness. In the 2022 Hong Kong Art Basel Fair, King of Kowloon's art received widespread attention and was highly sought after by collectors, earning a place among the top ten booths.
Zhao Haitien is a contemporary artist and a significant participant in the 2025 Hong Kong Art Basel Fair. Born in Shanghai in 1945, she was one of the few Chinese artists to study Western contemporary art abroad at that time. With over half a century of artistic creation, Zhao has held more than 40 solo and group exhibitions in various countries since the 1970s. Her oil paintings are characterized by heavy brushwork and emotional depth, combining abstraction with rhythm and dynamism, and narrating the interplay between the individual and the era. Zhao's diverse artistic style is beloved by many. Influenced by Daoism and Buddhism, her artistic journey has consistently been a pursuit of spiritual enlightenment and self-improvement with the belief that the humanities will ultimately evolve into abstract works.
Anothermountainman (Stanley Wong), as a representative of Hong Kong's new pop art, utilizes local visual symbols in his works and incorporates multiple media, notably featuring red, white, and blue nylon fabric. His art explores Hong Kong's unique urban memory, identity, and social phenomena. Yau Ma Tei's works not only offer visual beauty but also inspire viewers to reflect on and cherish their connection to the land and their sense of identity.
The "THE HONG KONG ICONICS" Art Basel Hong Kong review is not only a tribute to these three artists but also an opportunity to understand and explore Hong Kong's unique culture and artistic spirit. Viewers will have the chance to delve into the stories behind these works. Lucie Chang Fine Arts warmly invites friends from all walks of life to attend the opening on July 11 and witness this artistic dialogue that transcends time and media. Art enthusiasts and the public are welcome to visit and experience the vibrant pulse of Hong Kong's art and culture.
