CHRONICLE OF DREAMS by TOKUHIRO KAWAI AND DENG XIAO

A Gallery is proud to unveil Chronicle of Dreams, an exhibition that brings together for the first time the visionary works of contemporary masters Tokuhiro Kawai and Deng Xiao. Opening on January 15th 2026, and running through [Date], this exhibition presents a captivating dialogue between two artists who use the disciplined language of classical painting to construct profound and surreal dreamscapes for the modern age.

Both Kawai and Deng stand as singular voices in contemporary art, renowned for their breathtaking technical mastery—echoing the precision of the Renaissance and the Old Masters—which they subvert to explore the subconscious, myth, and narrative. Chronicle of Dreams frames their practices as parallel acts of recording: each painting serves as a meticulously rendered entry in an ongoing ledger of human fantasy, emotion, and allegory.

A Dialogue Between Two Dreamers

While distinct in their imagery, the artists share a profound conceptual kinship. Tokuhiro Kawai crafts a world where gravity and logic are suspended, populating his canvases with regal felines and levitating figures in scenes that feel like rediscovered pages from a fantastical storybook. His work, both satirical and whimsical, constructs a new mythology to reflect on human contradictions.

Deng Xiao draws from the wells of literature and history, translating the magical realism into haunting, silent tableaus. His paintings, where classical beauty meets surreal disruption, investigate deep cycles of desire, idealism, and memory, challenging viewers to reconsider entrenched aesthetic and social norms.

Kawai and Deng are not merely painters; they are archivists of the imagination.   This exhibition, Chronicle of Dreams, invites the audience to walk through a gallery of recorded visions. It’s a journey through a shared subconscious where Kawai’s playful paradoxes meet Deng’s poetic solemnity, proving that the most powerful dreams are painted with the most refined hand.

Exhibition Experience

The exhibition is thoughtfully curated to guide visitors through a narrative journey:
