Located in Tai Kwun, Central, we present a dynamic exhibition program spanning established and emerging artists, and maintain active presence at major art fairs and institutional collaborations worldwide.
Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Gallery Assistant (or Gallery Associate for candidates with 2+ years' experience) to be the operational backbone of our Hong Kong space. This is a client-facing, multi-functional role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to grow with the gallery.
Key Responsibilities
A. Gallery Operations & Facilities Management
- Daily opening and closing of the gallery; coordinate with Tai Kwun management on security, access, and building protocols
- Maintain gallery appearance, equipment, stationery, and supplies
- Develop and manage vendor relationships: framing, mounting, art handling, and local logistics
- Support (not execute) exhibition installation, deinstallation, and VIP programming
B. Client Engagement & Sales Support
- Greet visitors; conduct gallery tours and articulate exhibition concepts with confidence
- Record and cultivate visitor contacts and communicate to Sales Team effectively
- Support sales process from inquiry to post-sale care, including invoicing and coordination of delivery/installation
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with collectors, partners, and institutional contacts
C. Events & Programming
- Assist in planning and executing exhibition openings, artist talks, private viewings, and special events
- Lead event logistics: RSVP management, catering coordination, on-site hosting
- Cultivate partnership opportunities and serve as initial contact point for potential collaborators
D. Marketing & Content Support
- Document exhibitions, events, and artworks through photography and videography
- Support Marketing Team in capturing and recording content for social media, newsletter, website update, etc.
- Support the creation of marketing materials: e-invites, catalogues, press kits
E. Team & Intern Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor gallery interns; delegate tasks and ensure quality output
- Contribute to a collaborative, supportive team culture across departments
Requirements
Experience
- Gallery Assistant: 0–2 years in arts, hospitality, or client-facing roles
- Gallery Associate : 2+ years in gallery, museum, or art fair operations with demonstrable progression
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Strong written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or video editing tools highly desirable
- Willingness and physical capability to occasionally handle artworks and assist with installation
- Comfort with CRM systems (Artlogic, Artsy, or similar) an advantage

- Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Genuine interest in contemporary art, particularly Chinese ink and its global context
- Flexible schedule with availability for occasional evening and weekend work during openings, events, and fairs
