Ryo Matsuoka, Untitled, 2023 - 2024

WKM Gallery brings together a diverse collection of works by six artists, showcasing five Japanese artists namely Ryo Matsuoka (b. 1974, Tokyo), Daido Moriyama (b. 1938, Osaka), Hiro Sugiyama (b. 1962, Tokyo), Jun Takahashi (b. 1969, Gunma) and Ichi Tashiro (b. 1984, Ehime), alongside with American artist Sam Friedman (b. 1984, Oneonta, NY).

Matsuoka’s bold and instinctual creations reflect his dynamic, multidisciplinary approach, while Moriyama’s iconic, grainy, high-contrast photography captures the raw energy of urban life. Takahashi bridges the fantastical and the graphic, drawing inspiration from his dual practices in art and fashion. Sugiyama explores the interplay between abstraction and representation in his thought-provoking creations, while Tashiro’s sculptural collages harmonise strength and fragility through his intricate techniques. Friedman’s works, meanwhile, traverse the realms of abstraction and representation.

This collection exhibition encompasses painting, photography, sculpture, and conceptual creations, presenting a rich tapestry of artistic languages and practices. It offers audiences a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse range of artistic forms. The exhibition will be on view until 8 March 2025.
