Hong Kong emerging artist Angel Hui Hoi-kiu specially designed a site-specific installation "Angel Hui Pop Up Store" for the private space of Alisan Atelier, features the theme of a Hong Kong “Dai Pai Dong” setting, juxtaposing luxurious porcelain handbags painted with auspicious blue Chinese patterns, reminiscent of the ceramic artworks from the Yuan and Ming dynasties, to create a striking blend of tradition and innovation. In the talk, Hui will discuss the creative concept and process behind this artwork.

Angel Hui is known for her intricate ink work on tissue paper, transforming everyday objects into captivating art. By reinterpreting traditional forms and appropriating common materials, she discovers new meanings and develops new connections with contemporary lifestyles. Hui received her BA in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014 and an MA in Experimental Art from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2017. She is currently a part-time lecturer at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, and maintains her studio at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre in Hong Kong.
Hui has garnered numerous art awards, including the Societe Generale ‘Call for Artists’ Award in 2022 and the Excellence Award at the Art Next Expo International Artist Award in 2019. Her work has been exhibited at Lane Crawford locations in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hong Kong in 2016, as well as at K11 Hong Kong and Asia Now in Paris in 2022. Her large-scale ceramic installation Make a Wish, commissioned by the Hong Kong Museum of Art to celebrate the ancient Chinese emperor, was on display at the museum from 2022 to 2023.

Hui is nominated for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize this March. Her latest paintings are on view at the ink group exhibition "Tradition Transformed" at Alisan Fine Arts in Central, Hong Kong.
