Rachel Lehmann and David Maupin co-founded Lehmann Maupin in 1996 in New York. Since inception, Lehmann Maupin has served as a leading contemporary art gallery with locations in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. For over 25 years, Lehmann Maupin has been instrumental in introducing international artists in new geographies and building long-lasting curatorial relationships. Known for championing diverse voices, the gallery’s program proudly features artists whose work challenges notions of identity. and shapes international culture. Today, the gallery has locations in New York, Hong Kong, Seoul and London, as well as a team in mainland China. In the past year with growing opportunities in new markets, the gallery has opened seasonal spaces in Aspen, Palm Beach, Taipei, and Beijing.
Responsibilities
- SHIPPING
Arrange shipping for all the art fairs, sales, loans and consignments
Arrange COA for all sales associated with Lehmann Maupin Hong Kong
Assist clients with coordinating installation and other related services
- STORAGE & INVENTORY
Monitor inventory in Hong Kong and manage with competitive costs
Manage shipping costs & budgets for exhibitions and art fairs and general shipments
Manage on-site and off-site art storage
Oversee incoming/outgoing movement of artworks
Oversee storage location and condition on ArtBase
Prepare Condition Reports
- LOANS/CONSIGNMENTS
Generates loan forms and consignments for works with other galleries, museums and artists
Oversee technical aspects of any loaned installations
Monitor deadlines of agreements to be sure works are returned on time and all requirements fulfilled
- INSURANCE
Ensure proper insurance coverage for all shipments
Ensure certificates of insurance are on file
Ensures appropriate coverage for facilities, and all material in off-site storage
Ensure proper insurance coverage for all shipments
File claims when necessary
- CONSERVATION
Arrange for damaged works to be repaired by artist or conservator
Coordinate all conservation efforts and needs with NY Registrars
- FINANCE
Arrange weekly payments for all invoices associated with Lehmann Maupin Hong Kong
Analyze discrepancies, update and revise budgets as necessary
Control crating, shipping and storage expenses
- HUMAN RESOURCES
Manage staffing schedule, gallery calendar and staff vacation reporting
Requirements
– At least 3 years’ experience in Registrar or similar role at art gallery, auction house or fine art shipper
– Professional knowledge of customs and tax regulations
– Experience in artwork management and artwork handling
– Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese
– Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
