Recruiting Interns – HOCA

The Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation is looking for enthusiastic individuals interested in gaining experience in a non-profit contemporary art institution. The intern will be provided with a multi-faceted and hands-on experience of working on current and upcoming programming of the José Parlá’s solo exhibition scheduled to open September 17th, 2019. The intern will participate in HOCA’s curatorial and administrative processes and is encouraged to explore ideas relevant to their studies/professional interests.

An intern’s tasks may include the following: curatorial assistance, exhibition organization, social media outreach, event planning and support, administrative, and other assigned projects. The intern will also assist HOCA team in handling day-to-day tasks at exhibition venue and delivering high quality customer service to the exhibition visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces HOCA Foundation policies pertaining to visitors
  • Monitors works of art on display in the exhibition galleries; reports damages or losses to the HOCA Director
  • Greet visitors; accepts mail deliveries; take messages
  • Prepares daily activity and climate log; prepares incident reports as necessary
  • Compiles a variety of records online (visitation statistics, records of class visits and assignments, etc.) and prepares reports as requested
  • Alerts appropriate authorities to safety or security problems in Art Museum, including emergency safety and fire situations, and follows approved emergency procedures
  • Assists with preparation of HOCA newsletter, social media content, and annual reports

Requirements

  • Computer literate, Apple OSX, etc.
  • Eligible to work in Hong Kong
  • Possess some relevant working experience is preferred but not required.
  • From August to mid-November
  • Working hours are 12-8pm, Tuesday – Sunday (during exhibition periods)
  • Responsible, organized and self-motivated
  • Must be able to handle unusual/difficult situations in a courteous but authoritative manner; refers community members and visitors appropriately
  • Must be eligible to work in Hong Kong

 Applicants should speak English and Chinese, be organized, motivated and detail oriented individuals with good writing skills, computer skills and a professional phone manner.

Reimbursement

This is an unpaid internship. You are responsible for the cost of traveling to and from the office.

Other necessary travel and purchases for work purposes will be reimbursed if agreed with your immediate supervisor in advance.
