Exhibition Manager – Hong Kong Contemporary Art Foundation (HOCA)

FULL TIME, APPROX 40 hours per week for 2 to 3 months
Dec 2021 – Mar 2022

OVERVIEW

As an Exhibition Manager, your main responsibilities will be the organisation, planning and managing of HOCA’s UPCOMING MARCH 2022 exhibition, overseeing the full process and ensuring all aspects of an exhibition are managed and completed in an effective and timely manner. Reports directly to Director.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for liaising directly with the Artist and studio (based in New York plus any additional time zones, as needed).
  • Work together with the Artist and studio on curating the Exhibition and managing installation on site in Hong Kong at the venue.
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers to build out the Exhibition and install the artworks. You will be required to review and work within the approved Exhibition budgets, ensure quality control, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Coordinate and implement install and de-install of the Exhibition, including: packing and unpacking artwork, shipping, inventory artwork, condition reports, framing (if required), hanging and cleaning of artwork, as well as any other required set up tasks, as needed.
  • Assist the Director with all Exhibition correspondence, including: contracts, condition reports, checklists, contractor agreements, loan agreements and insurance policy, as well as any other required tasks, as needed.
  • In partnership with the Director and the Artist Studio, support exhibition design and production of the Exhibition catalogue.
  • Work on the marketing and promotional campaigns, together with the Director and the PR team to make sure event information, event collateral and invites are ready and sent in a timely manner and actively promoted to relevant contacts.
  • Assist the Director with the organisation, logistics and guest lists for the Exhibition Opening, Artist dinner and VIP party.
  • Collaborate with the Director to organise related educational activities for the duration of the Exhibition.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Degree in arts education, museum studies, art history, or other related area, is preferred.
  • A background in art related project management is essential for this role. Minimum 4+ years work experience in this field is required.
  • Fluent in English and proficient in Cantonese or Mandarin.
  • Prior budget management experience.
  • CAD design ability and 3D rendering, is helpful.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to lead and administer teams while working on multiple projects on budgets.
  • Strong organisational skills: Proven ability to work independently and with a team, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong administrative skills: ability to lead, organize, delegate and ensure good communication within teams.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge in all aspects of exhibition set up, construction, fabrication, demolition, budget building and management.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The Exhibition Manager will work partly from home, the HOCA office and the Exhibition Venue, as agreed in advance with the Director.

The manager will be working directly with the Director and supervise 1 or 2 interns.

He/she must be able to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and positively represent the Foundation, its partners, program and team in these relationships.
